Yahoo Finance’s SI=F silver-futures daily record gained about 0.2% on September 22 compared with September 21. A silver-price move need not be the price around which a mine adjusts production. World Silver Survey 2026, compiled by Metals Focus and published by the Silver Institute on April 15, estimated that lead-zinc mines were the largest source of mined silver in 2025, while silver output from copper operations increased about 6%. Some silver production follows projects built around other metals.
For those mines, a higher silver price can add by-product revenue. The main product’s price, ore grade, recovery, and project conditions also enter the economics of the whole operation. This does not make every copper or lead-zinc mine insensitive to silver; it does mean one silver price does not independently control supply.
The report estimated 2025 mined output at about 846.6 million troy ounces, up roughly 3%, and recycling at about 197.6 million troy ounces, up around 2%. A recycling response still passes through collection, delivery to a plant, and refining. The report identified refinery bottlenecks that constrained recycling that year: scrap offered for sale is not immediately deliverable silver. Main-product projects, processing capacity, and existing stocks can all affect how quickly supply reaches the market. A slow mine response alone does not establish an absolute shortage.
The Institute forecast roughly flat 2026 mine production in April. That was its annual outlook at the time, not a full-year result already confirmed in September or an explanation for the small September 22 gain.

SI=F is not a spot quote and contract switches can affect a continuous series. Industry figures are Metals Focus estimates for 2025; flat 2026 mine output was an April forecast. They do not establish a physical shortage on this date. The mine-economics discussion is analytical interpretation. Silver figures use Yahoo Finance SI=F historical daily records, comparing the article date with the preceding session. Historical quote cutoffs, delivery-month mapping and roll adjustments have not been independently reconstructed; these changes do not establish same-contract settlement changes or spot returns.
