GLD fell from $408.42 on August 31 to $396.75 on September 1, then recovered to $402.78 on September 2. It gained about 1.5% that day and was still roughly 1.4% below Monday’s close. The bounce had begun; the previous loss had not been recovered.

The ten-year nominal Treasury yield remained at 4.79%. The real yield edged up from 2.44% to 2.45%, while the dollar index fell about 0.1%. Gold’s repair did not accompany falling yields. A reversal of earlier selling, new safe-haven or physical demand, and a technical bounce remained unresolved possibilities. August’s BLS employment report was scheduled for September 4, and the next FOMC meeting had not taken place.

TLT rose only 0.1% and SPY 0.4%. Gold, long bonds and equities had fallen together a day earlier; their recoveries now differed, with gains beyond defensive assets. NVIDIA rose about 3.2% that day, and Micron 2.4%.
