Historical note: compiled on October 4, 2026; the observation cutoff is the date in this article (2026-08-13, New York close).
On August 13, BLS reported that July final-demand PPI was unchanged month over month after seasonal adjustment, while its unadjusted annual increase remained 4.7%. Goods prices fell 0.7%, services rose 0.2%, and the measure excluding food, energy and trade services increased 0.4%. Offsetting movements produced the flat headline; rising components remained inside it. That is neither an absence of production-side price pressure nor direct evidence of lower AI-company costs.
At the New York close, Micron gained about 4.2%, Nvidia 0.5%, semiconductor ETF SMH 0.7%, QQQ 1.2% and SPY 0.7%. Micron’s strength far exceeded the chip basket’s, but the same-day prices do not establish a causal link to PPI. Gold ETF GLD lost about 1.5%, while long-duration Treasury ETF TLT gained 0.6%, another pair that did not move together.
