Historical backfill: compiled on October 4, 2026; the observation date is 2026-08-10. Stocks and ETFs use regular-session closing prices; silver uses Yahoo Finance historical daily records whose precise cutoff has not been independently verified.
The preceding Friday’s employment release was already available. On August 7, BLS initially reported a July payroll decline of 23,000 and a 4.1% unemployment rate, describing both as little changed. Those were the initial figures available on August 10, not proof of a recession; later revisions cannot replace them.
On August 10, gold ETF GLD gained about 1.0%, Yahoo Finance’s SI=F silver-futures daily record 2.8%, and DXY 0.2%, while long-duration Treasury ETF TLT lost roughly 0.8%. A weak-employment account of the metal gains still has to accommodate a firmer dollar and the absence of a bond rally. Silver’s futures quotation and GLD’s ETF market price have different hours and scope; silver’s gain also lacked simultaneous confirmation from industrial-demand data.
The nominal ten-year Treasury yield stood at 4.72% and the ten-year real yield at 2.43%, hardly a low-rate setting. SPY was nearly unchanged and semiconductor ETF SMH lost about 2.3%. Metals, the dollar, long bonds and chips did not give a common macro direction. These quotations also do not identify a contribution to gold’s gain independent of the dollar and rates.

Stock and ETF prices refer to the 2026-08-10 New York regular-session close; stock and ETF daily changes compare historical closing prices for adjacent trading sessions. The vendor’s adjustment rules have not been independently verified; investor total returns were not calculated. FRED historical observations were retrieved during compilation; real-time vintages were not reconstructed. Macro figures use the contemporaneous BLS release. Mechanism interpretations are research judgments. Silver figures use Yahoo Finance SI=F historical daily records, comparing the article date with the preceding session. Historical quote cutoffs, delivery-month mapping and roll adjustments have not been independently reconstructed; these changes do not establish same-contract settlement changes or spot returns. Dollar-index figures use Yahoo Finance DX-Y.NYB daily records; the provider’s daily cutoff has not been reconstructed, so they are not treated as synchronous with regular stock and ETF closes.
