Historical note: compiled on October 4, 2026; the observation cutoff is the date in this article (2026-08-06; stocks and ETFs use the New York regular-session close).
On August 6, the two-year Treasury yield rose from 4.18% to 4.25% and the ten-year from 4.63% to 4.69%—seven and six basis points, respectively. Long-duration Treasury ETF TLT lost about 0.6%, a percentage price return rather than a yield change in basis points. The ten-year real yield also rose from 2.41% to 2.43%, and DXY gained about 0.3%.
At the New York close, SPY slipped just 0.2% and QQQ 0.4%, while semiconductor ETF SMH gained 0.3%. The broad equity proxies were relatively quiet even as rates and the dollar moved. Stocks did not respond uniformly to the less favorable financing and discount conditions.
BLS had scheduled July’s employment report for the morning of August 7. Its result remained unknown at the August 6 close. The yield rise cannot be assigned to a definite bet on one payroll figure, or explained retrospectively with the next day’s release.
