Historical note: compiled on October 4, 2026; the observation cutoff is the date in this article (2026-08-03, New York close).

At the August 3 New York close, SPY gained about 1.4% and QQQ 1.8%, ahead of semiconductor ETF SMH’s 0.9%. Nvidia rose roughly 2.9%, still stronger than all three baskets, while Micron added 0.8%. The first trading day of August supported the AI leader without putting the chip basket in the lead.

QQQ includes large technology companies outside semiconductors; SPY covers a broader universe, while SMH focuses on chips. Different constituents and weights shape these returns. Their ranking does not separate sector contributions or establish that smaller companies joined in, money shifted across industries, or buying would persist.
