Historical note: compiled on October 4, 2026; the observation cutoff is the date in this article (2026-07-23; stocks and ETFs use the New York regular-session close).
On July 23, the Federal Reserve’s July 28–29 meeting was still ahead. That day’s quotations preceded the decision; they were not a policy turn already made.
The two-year Treasury yield rose from 4.31% to 4.37%, the ten-year from 4.67% to 4.71%, and the ten-year real yield from 2.39% to 2.43%. DXY gained approximately 0.3%. The larger rise at the two-year point makes short-end repricing relevant, although yields also incorporate term premiums and other influences rather than revealing the coming statement.
At the New York close, QQQ declined about 1.9%, SPY 1.2%, gold ETF GLD 2.0% and long-duration Treasury ETF TLT 0.3%. A tougher discount rate, a higher real-yield hurdle for gold and pressure on long bonds fit those directions. Their contributions to the day’s losses remain unidentified.
Chip stocks did not move in unison: Micron gained about 3.2%, while Nvidia fell 1.6%. Less favorable common financial conditions still left these two AI hardware stocks on opposite sides of the tape.
