Capital control tail risk adds a layer that has no parallel in developed markets. QDII quotas can be tightened or frozen without warning. A cross-border thesis that depends on continuous QDII access does not merely face uncertainty; it is structurally fragile: its validity depends on the ongoing benevolence of a regulatory regime under no obligation to provide it.

Currency tail risk in the RMB/USD pair is not a smooth, mean-reverting process that can be hedged cheaply with rolling forwards.
